Description

Crisp and refreshing, this wine offers aromas of strawberry, wild cherry and white peach with accents of rose petal and watermelon. The aromatics are echoed in the flavors with notes of papaya and blood orange. The luscious fruit flavors are enhanced by the wine’s lively acidity and a crisp, delicious finish.

Vineyard Notes

34% Grenache from Zaca Mesa and Thompson Vineyards; 33% Pinot Noir from Radian, La Encantada, Rancho La Viña, Sanford & Benedict and Zotovich Vineyards; 14% Mourvèdre from Zaca Mesa and Curtis Vineyards; 13% Petite Sirah from Sanger Vineyard; 6% Cabernet Sauvignon from Pegasus Vineyard

Production Notes

The 2018 vintage was our latest harvest since 2012, and extended well into November for the first time in nearly a decade. Late rains in March were well-timed to launch the growing season, and budbreak occurred about two weeks later than recent averages. Temperatures throughout the spring and summer remained cool. Night-time temperatures were consistently chilly as well, in the low to mid-50s, ideal for retaining the natural acidity in the grapes. Canopies were healthy and well positioned to go the distance to ripen the fruit. An opportune heat bump in late October helped propel our late ripening varietals to perfect ripeness. Berries were small, and yields were customarily low, resulting in excellent concentration and intensity in the fruit.

Winemaker Notes

This Rosé was made using a saignée, or juice draw, taken immediately upon crushing the grape clusters into the fermenter. The brief contact with the red grape skins renders its beautiful pale color. The juice was fermented in stainless steel for one month, then aged on its lees for an additional five months, adding depth and complexity to the wine without overshadowing the fresh fruit components. The wine was bottled on April 16, 2018.
