' Seductive New La Encantada Pinot Noir

NEWSLETTER                                                         JANUARY 2016

  HAPPY NEW YEAR!
NEW LA ENCANTADA PINOT & SAUVIGNON BLANC FOR 2016

Welcome to 2016! I’ve been working on our release schedule for the coming year and can tell you there will be some stunning new wines coming your way from the 2013 and 2014 harvests, both excellent vintages here in Santa Barbara County.

To kick things off, we are pleased to release our 2013 La Encantada Vineyard Pinot Noir. Following on the heels of the popular 2012 La Encantada Pinot, this wine is incredibly seductive, deeply concentrated and complex. The majority of this wine consists of the Swan clone, one of my favorite Pinot Noir clones, and I especially like its expression at the La Encantada site. We also are releasing our 2014 Vogelzang Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is lower in alcohol, resulting in a refreshingly smooth body, good acidity and vivid flavors and aromatics. Try it with oysters on the half shell!

Calling all KB fans in Southern California! I will be spending a few days in early February doing events at Chez Melange in Redondo Beach, Whole Foods in Venice and Arte Café in Cerritos. See all the details below or check our
website.

We hope you’ll stop in to taste the new releases over the winter. With El Niño here, our cozy tasting room is the perfect rainy day destination! We will be closed on Super Bowl Sunday so you can root for your favorite team. Hope to see you soon.

Cheers!

NEW RELEASES

2013 LA ENCANTADA VINEYARD
PINOT NOIR

Located just west of the legendary Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, La Encantada is in the heart of Sta. Rita Hills’ quintessential Pinot Noir zone. The wine is seductive and complex with perfumy aromatics and a succulent mouthfeel, thanks in part to the Swan clone used in this Pinot Noir for the first time. Deeply concentrated aromas of ripe red cherry are accented by a touch of cinnamon stick and a stone component. Flavors of baked cherry, dark earth and a hint of leather are beautifully supported by a luscious texture and remarkably long finish. The wine’s superbly well-balanced tannins and layers of complexity assure great cellar potential. Only 287 cases made. Click here for more information or to order.

2014 VOGELZANG VINEYARD SAUVIGNON BLANC

This superb vineyard is located in the Happy Canyon appellation in the Santa Ynez Valley, the “sweet spot” for quality Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel barrels and neutral French oak barrels to retain the crispness and integrity of the fruit. The wine displays fresh, lively aromas of lemon custard and white nectarine, with undercurrents of honeysuckle and spice. The flavors echo the aromatics, with hints of lemon drop and floral notes. The wine’s crisp acidity is beautifully balanced by a remarkable silky richness that frames the wine. A lingering finish is crowned by a touch of lime zest and minerality. Only 152 cases made. Click here for more information or to order.
