NEW YEAR, NEW WINES
Hello and hope the new year is off to a good start for all. We've had a little time to reflect on (and taste) the wines from last fall, and it looks like 2009 is shaping up to be a great vintage. Although budbreak has not yet occurred, the 2010 vintage is looking promising already due to the much needed rain we've been receiving. After three years of drought, the plentiful rainfall is recharging the soil and saturating the root zone of the vines. This will encourage more vigor and vegetative growth of the leaves and canopy so they can better support the upcoming crop.
Deborah and I are pleased to announce the release of two outstanding Pinot Noirs. The 2007 Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of our flagship vineyard-designated wines. Its silky structure, rich tannins and intense dark fruit expression will continue to harmonize with time although it is showing wonderful drinkability now. The 2008 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir is delightfully rich and dense with lush aromas and flavors. You will find it easy to pair with many of your favorite dishes!
It would be a pleasure to see you in the coming months during my travels to events in Orange County, La Jolla or the World of Pinot Noir in Shell Beach. (See the calendar below or click here.) We continue to host one Open House a month where we invite you to stop by the winery in Buellton with no appointment necessary. As always, thank you for your friendship and support and hope to see you soon.
Cheers!

NEW RELEASES
2007 CLOS PEPE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
This is one of the most classic Clos Pepe Pinot Noirs we have made to date, with an expression that is truly reflective of the vineyard. The nose features a characteristic touch of minerality with underlying fruit components, including wild blackberry, black raspberry and a hint of cranberry. The flavors, including dark berry and spice, are supported by a silky mid-palate, which culminates in a long, elegant finish. The wine beautifully balances a rich texture with bright acidity and a velvety tannin structure. These components will continue to harmonize with additional cellaring, enhancing the depth, complexity and longevity of this classic Pinot Noir. Click here for more details or to order.
2008 SANTA BARBARA COUNTY PINOT NOIR Comprised of grapes from Clos Pepe Vineyard (50%), Garey Vineyard (32%) and Nielson Vineyard (18%), this wine showcases the remarkable synergy between Pinot Noir grown in Santa Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley. Lush fruit aromas of black cherry and blackberry are accented by a subtle hint of cinnamon stick and forest earth. On the palate, the wine features black cherry and dark plum flavors framed by velvety tannins. An exceptionally rich, dense structure envelops the wine's pleasing acidity, resulting in a plush, well balanced texture and bright, lingering finish. Click here for more details or to order.
