' New Vin Gris of Pinot Noir for Summer!

SUMMERTIME AND THE SIPPING IS EASY

Nothing says summer better than a crisp, well chilled Vin Gris. Well, that’s my humble opinion as a winemaker, but I think our 2013 Vin Gris of Pinot Noir will make a believer out of you too. While this style of wine is usually enjoyed as an aperitif or picnic wine, our 2013 Vin Gris is a real contender as a food wine as well thanks to its incredible balance and silky richness. While writing the tasting notes, Stacy and I enjoyed it with a ricotta and arugula pizza, but we also suggest trying it with fresh oysters, smoked salmon or a country ham. Save a few bottles for your Thanksgiving table—it’s a wonderful complement to the wide variety of flavors typically found at Thanksgiving dinner.

A quick reminder to Wine Club members that shipments are suspended over the summer months as we cannot ship wine in the warm temperatures. Your next club shipment is slated for late October.

We will be participating in two fantastic upcoming wine events in Santa Barbara—the annual Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History tasting on June 28 and a winemaker dinner at the Four Seasons Biltmore on July 23. Check out the details below and please join us!

Cheers!

NEW RELEASE

2013 VIN GRIS OF PINOT NOIR

This wine combines Pinot Noir from two of Santa Barbara County’s preeminent appellations—66% from Rio Vista in Sta. Rita Hills and 34% from Nielson Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley. It was made using a centuries-old French technique known as a saignée, or juice draw, taken when the grapes were crushed. Customarily, these grapes are picked at a lower sugar level than traditional red Pinot Noir, resulting in naturally lower alcohol, brighter aromatics and flavor and higher acidity. Beautifully aromatic and crisp, the wine is exceptionally well balanced and food friendly. Fresh aromas of strawberry, cherry and red raspberry are accented by hints of honeysuckle, rhubarb and spice. Luscious red cherry and strawberry fruit flavors give way to a remarkable silky richness and complexity, attributable to the wine’s barrel fermentation and sur lies aging. Only 133 cases made.
