' Cargasacchi Pinot Noir & Two New Releases for Summer

NEWSLETTER                                                                                                                JUNE 2012

LONG AWAITED 2009 CARGASACCHI PINOT NOIR IS HERE

It’s been eight long months since the 2008 Cargasacchi Pinot Noir sold out, leaving a lengthy gap for our many fans of this wine. As you can imagine, Deborah and I are especially pleased to announce the release of the 2009 Cargasacchi Pinot Noir. We hope you’ll agree it was worth the wait! The wine packs the incredible richness and complexity Cargasacchi is known for, along with intense dark cherry, earth tone and spice components. Only 169 cases were made, so we recommend placing orders early before this vintage too is sold out.

We also are releasing two superb wines just in time for summer sipping. The 2010 Nielson Vineyard Chardonnay is a true classic from the historic Nielson Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley. We especially enjoy it with seafood (lobster is the best!) and pasta dishes. Our 2011 Rosie’s Rosé is a crisp, refreshing rosé made from Watch Hill Vineyard Syrah in the Los Alamos Valley. We suggest you pair it with hors d’oeuvres on the patio, a picnic at the lake or a sunset over the Pacific.

The 2012 growing season here in Santa Barbara County is well underway with the completion of berry set (when the grape clusters have been pollinated and berries are increasing to the size of peas) in most vineyards. We recently finished shoot positioning in our vineyards, which will increase air flow and sun exposure to the clusters and encourage more even ripening of the fruit. Unlike last year, we did not experience any frost during the sensitive early spring months, but I have noticed a higher than usual percentage of sterile shoots (those with no clusters), which is perhaps a latent effect from last year’s frost. Cluster counts are low, which will mean lower yields, but great potential for excellent quality.

We hope you’ll take time to enjoy summer in wine country and stop by to taste our very special new releases. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with you and share our passion for Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.

Cheers!

NEW RELEASES

2009 CARGASACCHI VINEYARD
PINOT NOIR

Exceptionally aromatic and complex, this wine offers classic Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir character from the 2009 vintage. Intense aromas of dark cherry mingle with rich earth tones and hints of black tea, chanterelle mushroom and white pepper. Subtle French oak expression adds a touch of spice and a toasted almond component. The flavors offer layers of complexity, supported by a remarkably rich mid palate, smooth tannins and a luscious dark cherry flavor on the finish. The components will continue to intensify and develop, becoming even more complex with additional bottle age. 169 cases made. Click here for more details or to order.

2010 NIELSON VINEYARD
CHARDONNAY

Founded by pioneer Uriel Nielson in 1964, this property is Santa Barbara County’s oldest vineyard. This Chardonnay is rich and beautifully balanced with fresh aromas of Golden Delicious apple, pear and peach accented by hints of honeysuckle and spice. These components will gradually evolve into aromas of honey, pear and hazelnut as the wine develops. A silky, elegant texture intertwined with a thread of natural acidity carry through to a rich, seamless finish. As experienced in past vintages of Nielson Chardonnay, this wine will enjoy exceptional ageability. 238 cases made. Click here for more details or to order.

2011 ROSIE'S SYRAH Rosé

This is a delicious, refreshing rosé made in a dry style from Syrah grapes from the Watch Hill Vineyard in Los Alamos Valley. Look for fresh aromatics of strawberry and cherry with a touch of watermelon and spice. The creamy mouthfeel is nicely balanced by a lift of crisp acidity. Only 23 cases made so it won’t last long! Available only at the tasting room and our website. Click here for more details or to order.
